The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a rather young country dense with
history; a well traveled bridge between sea and desert, East and
west. Like in Syria one will find above the layers of antiquity a
land of astonishing beauty and variety: the immense desert with its
desert castles, the fertile Jordan valley, the desert canyons, and
the Red Sea with its famous coral reefs go hand in hand in this
small country. In order to give you an idea about the historical
importance of Jordan, we will summarize hereafter the major
historical events that influenced this area in particular and left
their marks on the country, the culture, and its peoples.
